Many drivers avoid backing into parking spots because it's more complex and time- consuming than pulling in forwards. Unfortunately, this choice leads to a high risk of collisions when exiting parking spaces due to limited visibility. According to the American Automobile Association, 91% of all parking lot accidents are caused by reversing.
Accidents that occur while reversing out of parking spots account for 9% of pedestrian
fatalities in parking lots.
The National Safety Council (NSC) in the U.S. estimates that 9% of pedestrian deaths in
parking lots occur while cars are backing up, as drivers have limited visibility during this
maneuver. Similar issues with reverse parking are also present in Croatia and Europe.
According to the European Commission, about 30% of all urban accidents are due to
maneuvering, which includes reversing. Additionally, poor visibility of traffic and lack of
space further increase driver stress, which can lead to further driving problems and create
discomfort at the thought of needing to drive in reverse.
